PRETTY ON THE OUTSIDE at Satchi&Satchi&Satchi Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand in 2019. This series explored the space of a girls bathroom. A sacred place full of ritual, culture, unspoken understanding and social customs. A girls bathroom is filled with secrets, forgotten friendships, advice, makeup, tears, blood, conflict, pride and hysterical affection. This felt like a space so mundane and yet so intriguing, a blurred line between the private and public. I wanted to paint the bathroom as I’ve felt it - stark, and filled with girly dirtiness.
