BABIES

BABIES showed at Home Street Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand in 2021. This series focussed on memories, the ones that we can recall, the ones we’re reminded of from scrolling through our camera roll and the ones that never really happened. I was interested in trying to capture the casual-ness of a phone photo, noticing how often these are less casual and more contrived than we like to admit. Most of the imagery I painted were half real and half altered while I was painting. What we choose to recall, how it feeds into the narrative of our lives. There’s an innocence to this; the coming of age story we make up in our heads.
